What are you like outside of work?
Outside the editor I'm usually trying to be somewhere I haven't been — sport, new food, road trips that start with “let's just drive”.
Two useless-until-they-aren't talents: card tricks, and — years waiting tables in fine dining — clearing a whole table in one trip, plates up one arm.
On Erasmus in Poland we hiked Giewont in December — winter coats, no gear, phones for maps. We made the 1,900m summit, then the cold killed every phone. We came down icy trails in the dark until they revived enough to be torches. No injuries, just the story.
